South Africa’s second-largest oil refinery, Engen Refinery (Enref), is set to undergo a thirty five-day planned maintenance outage from July 9 as part of an ongoing maintenance programme to ensure that the facility, which delivers a significant portion of South Africa’s fuel requirements, continues to operate safely and reliably.

The plant, which processed up to 125 000 bbl/d of crude oil, had a wide product pallet that included automotive, industrial, aviation and marine fuels, bitumen and lubricants, a range of chemicals and solvents.

Enref GM Jehan Zaib said in a statement that routine maintenance shutdowns were essential in ensuring security of supply of product for South Africa.

“To ensure that we complete this maintenance outage on time and in full, there will be increased traffic as suppliers and contractors service the refinery. We will, however, do our utmost to keep any disruption to a minimum and have detailed planning schedules to mitigate any potential access and capacity issues,” he commented.
